Learn how to address envelopes with Cricut and create beautifully personalized wedding envelopes for all your invitees!
Need to address your envelopes, but don’t want to use your own messy handwriting or pay someone else to do so? Well if you are a Cricut owner, then you have come to the right spot! Follow these easy steps to create your own personalized envelopes using your Cricut maker.
If you are like me, and you are amidst wedding planning… then you know what it is like trying to save money while also making things look nice! I was so excited when I learned about the Cricut pen feature and how I could use it to address my wedding envelopes! No need to pay the extra money to have them addressed for you. If you have the time and patience to do it yourself then follow these easy step-by-step instructions!
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open your Cricut Design Space software and start a new canvas project. Click ”shape” and choose the shape of your envelope. This will most likely be a square or rectangle.
2. Now that you have your shape on the canvas. Click on it and ”edit” it. Change the size of the shape to the exact size of your envelope. For example, my envelope is a 6-inch by 6-inch square. Changing the shape to the appropriate size will help you determine how big your addresses need to be on your envelope. You will also want to choose ”operation pen” because we will be using our Cricut pen to create these envelopes. Lastly, I like to change the color of my shape to white so I can see best.
3. Now we can begin writing our addresses. Click “text” to begin writing the addressee’s names.
4. You can change the font to whatever font you like; however, it must be a Cricut “writing” font. If it does not say writing, then your Cricut pen will write in bubble letters. I love the font Haley for writing out the names on my envelopes. It is a free Cricut writing font.
5. Next write out the name of your addressee. For example “Mr. & Mrs. Jospeh Callaway”. Now drag the text into your envelope box and position/re-size until it looks proportional to your envelope.
6. Now we can write out the return and sender address. Click ”text” to create a new text box. Change the font to whatever you like, but again remember it must be a Cricut writing font. I like the font, Roger.
7. Once you have written both your addresses, drag them into the envelope box. Position and re-size until it looks appropriate. I like to have the return address aligned to the left and the sender address aligned to the center. I also like to make the sender address bigger than the return address.
8. Now we are ready to make it! Click “make it” in the top right-hand corner of the Cricut Design Space software. Choose whichever mat you have, then “confirm”. You most likely have a 12×12-inch mat like me.
9. Now we have to drag everything into place again. Make sure to use the grid to align everything, that way we know exactly where to place our envelope on the Cricut mat.
10. We do not want the Cricut maker to actually draw the envelope box; therefore, we need to hide or delete it. Click on the envelope box and three dots will appear in the top left corner. Click on the dots and choose ”hide selected”.
11. Now click “next”. At this point you will need to make sure you have turned on your Cricut maker and that your computer is connected via Bluetooth to the Cricut machine.
12. Next, we need to choose the material that the Cricut will be writing on. For envelopes, I choose ”light cardstock”.
13. Now it is time to load our Cricut pen into the Cricut maker. I use a 0.4-tip black Cricut pen to address my envelopes. I believe you can use any pen; however, it must fit into the Cricut pen holder snugly to perform. To load the pen, pull the flap back, insert the pen until you hear a click, then close the flap.
14. Next, place your envelope on the mat. Be sure to press firmly on the envelope so that it strongly adheres to the mat. Also, make sure it is on the same grid line that is shown on your computer. If you do not put your envelope on the exact grid mark that is shown on your computer, your Cricut pen will not write your addresses in the correct location.
15. Now click the “load” arrow button on the left side of your Cricut maker.
16. Now click the “cut” button on the left side of your Cricut maker and let it do the work!
17. When it is done writing, you can click the ”unload” button which is the same as the “load” button.
18. Carefully pull the Cricut mat away from the envelope and Voila! Beautifully written wedding envelopes. Continue following the same instructions for all your envelopes. It will go quickly the second time around because you have already made your envelope template. You will just need to edit the name and address you are sending to.
I hope you learned how to address envelopes with Cricut. The pen feature is such a neat Cricut tool! If you have any questions, leave them in the comments. I also posted a video tutorial on my Instagram and TikTok (bynataliechristina) which might be helpful to watch!
